Founder story - Jon Carlin

As a lover of coffee myself, I know that the coffee experience extends past the great aromas and flavours that bring a smile to our faces every day.

Coffee encompasses not only the individual experience but the joys of sharing a cuppa with our friends and loved ones. I’m sure you have all shared some great coffee chats over the years as have I.

So, I thought I would share with you my own story and that of how Perth Coffee Exchange was born.

For those of you who have had kids you know coffee is an important part of surviving day to day life. Some days it is the calming nature of having some time to yourself, other times it is the life blood that kick starts your day or perhaps it is one of those simple yet special moments that we regularly share with our friends and loved ones over a fresh brew.

The Perth Coffee Exchange Founding Team

In 2017 my wife Andy and I found ourselves in the great part of life with 2 beautiful young girls under 3, Zoe and Pippa. As a result, we were drinking more coffee at home than usual and with the change came more drop ins from friends and family keen to see the kids and enjoying a coffee.

Andy and I have always been adventurous, both having travelled extensively in our younger days, and we love supporting local businesses. So, we set about mixing up our newfound "routine-based" days with some adventure into our daily ritual. We went exploring for new local coffees to keep our daily ritual fresh and add some excitement to our days.

After hours of searching online we were unable to find a convenient way to find and explore the incredible variety of our local coffee scene.

And so, the idea for Perth Coffee Exchange was born.

We launched in 2018 with 6 coffee roasters and 10 different coffee varieties alongside our day jobs as a Nurse and Police Officer for WA Police.

PIppa and Zoe

Fast forward to 2021 and we have grown to be Perth's #1 Online Coffee Bean Marketplace now showcasing over 75 different coffees from 21+ of Perth’s best and upcoming coffee roasters.

Mid way through 2021 I retired from the WA Police so that I could focus my energy on Perth Coffee Exchange whilst spending more time guiding Zoe and Pippa through their transition into school life.

We have grown into a community of over 2000 self-brew coffee lovers who enjoy drinking a variety of quality coffees, supporting local coffee roasters and improving the experience that we have with our daily ritual.

We are on a mission to improve the experience that 50,000 coffee lovers have with their daily ritual by 2025.

"Better Days Delivered Fresh"

We have been working hard behind the scenes on some new ideas to improve the coffee experience that we offer our community, with some exciting changes to be announced early into the new year.

I am genuinely excited about what 2022 will bring for Perth Coffee Exchange, our coffee community and the wider Perth coffee scene and hope that we are able to reach more people to show them the fun side of coffee and improve the experience they have with their daily brew in 2022 and beyond.
